Kolkata (West Bengal): Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Monday described the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections as crucial, saying that people in the state are prepared for change. He credited Union Home Minister Amit Shah with strengthening the BJP’s position in Bengal and energising party workers through his consistent involvement and leadership.
Commenting on Amit Shah’s visit to the state, Ghosh said the BJP has gradually consolidated its presence in West Bengal due to the Home Minister’s regular engagement with party leaders and workers. He added that Shah has played a key role in guiding and motivating the organisation during difficult phases.
“This time, the Bengal elections are very important. People are ready for change. Because of Amit Shah, the BJP is standing strong in West Bengal. Whenever there was a challenge, he came here, led from the front, and encouraged party workers. As elections approach, his visit is again aimed at boosting morale,” Ghosh said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is currently in West Bengal and is scheduled to hold meetings with the state BJP’s core committee leaders in Kolkata. According to party sources, the discussions will focus on reviewing preparedness and fine-tuning strategies for the 2026 Assembly elections, including organisational strength, booth-level planning, and coordination among leaders.
The visit is being seen as significant amid the BJP’s renewed push in West Bengal, with the central leadership stepping up efforts to strengthen the party’s electoral prospects in the state.
West Bengal is set to go to the polls in 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to visit the state on December 20, during which he will address a rally in Taherpur, Nadia district.
The political atmosphere in the state remains charged, with the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress opposing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The Election Commission has said that the window for claims and objections will remain open until January 15, 2026, urging voters to verify their details as the revision process continues ahead of the Assembly elections.
