Erode (Tamil Nadu):
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay on Thursday launched a blistering attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) during a public meeting in Erode, accusing the party of spreading misinformation and indulging in what he termed “ugly politics” to stall TVK’s political rise.
Referring to issues such as NEET exemption and LPG gas cylinder subsidies, Vijay alleged that the DMK has been running a series of false propaganda campaigns. “DMK and problems are stuck together like Fevicol and cannot be separated,” he remarked, claiming that the ruling party’s sole agenda is to prevent TVK from emerging as a credible political alternative in Tamil Nadu.
“I can understand ugly politics, but we will never practice such politics,” Vijay said, asserting that TVK would follow a different political path.
Highlighting TVK’s roadmap, he recalled the party’s Kancheepuram meeting, where its plans for governance were clearly outlined. On welfare schemes, Vijay clarified that he is not against subsidies, but criticised the DMK for allegedly insulting people by labelling them as “OC.”
Questioning the state government’s performance, Vijay asked under whose administration school dropout rates had increased. He also claimed that Tamil Nadu merely “acts” as if it leads the country in education. Emphasising governance and public safety, he promised that there would be no compromise on law and order under a TVK-led government.
In one of his strongest remarks, Vijay repeatedly described the DMK as an “evil force,” while projecting TVK as a “pure force.” He said the present political struggle in Tamil Nadu is a battle between these two opposing forces. Reflecting on the past, Vijay added that he now understands why former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had taken a firm stand against the DMK.
Concluding his address, Vijay expressed solidarity with the public, saying, “I stand with the people, and the people stand with me.” He urged supporters to return home safely and thanked them for their presence. The event ended with Vijay taking a selfie with the crowd, which he referred to as the “Erode Selfie,” continuing his signature gesture at public meetings.
