Guwahati: Major General AK Sharma, VSM, General Officer Commanding of 51 Sub Area, addressed the Veterans Swabhiman Rally 2025 held at Narangi Military Station on Sunday, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to veterans’ welfare. “We have tried to address all their issues,” he said, acknowledging the presence of veterans from remote areas and highlighting efforts to support their needs.
Assam Governor Lakshman Acharya, the chief guest, praised the dedication and sacrifices of India’s armed forces, describing the event as a “sacred” gathering that reflects the nation’s gratitude. “A soldier never truly retires,” he remarked, lauding their continued contribution to nation-building.
The rally, organised under HQ 51 Sub Area, featured initiatives focusing on health, self-reliance, and welfare. Governor Acharya cited key welfare schemes such as One Rank One Pension (OROP) and the PM’s Scholarship Scheme, and praised Assam‘s leadership in ex-servicemen support—highlighting increased job reservations, medical seats for veterans’ children, and Raj Bhavan’s awareness programmes.
He also congratulated the Rajyik Sainik Board, Assam, for receiving a national award from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for exemplary service in veteran welfare.
The event served both as a tribute to the armed forces and a reaffirmation of India’s commitment to those who have served.
