Dehradun: In a landmark move under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Uttarakhand government launched a massive crackdown on cybercrime through ‘Operation Prahar’. The operation, hailed as a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, has sent a strong message across the nation by targeting cybercriminals with unprecedented coordination and scale.
According to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, the operation led by Uttarakhand Police carried out simultaneous raids in 17 states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Kerala, and Goa.
Over 290 cybercriminals faced strict legal action during this strategic and coordinated operation, which marked a turning point in India‘s fight against digital crime.
The genesis of Operation Prahar lies in a major cyberattack that recently hit the state. In response, CM Dhami pledged decisive action, vowing to make Uttarakhand a hostile ground for cyber offenders. He initiated a major overhaul of the cyberpolicing infrastructure — revamping cyberpolice stations and strengthening intelligence capabilities.
The result was Operation Prahar — an extraordinary show of cooperation between Uttarakhand Police, central agencies, and law enforcement from other states. It has positioned Uttarakhand not only as a leader in tourism and pilgrimage but now also as a model for cybercrime enforcement.
Officials credit the operation’s success to CM Dhami’s vision, swift decision-making, and commitment to good governance. His approach emphasizes not just policy but proactive execution — evident in the transparency, responsiveness, and energy with which his administration has tackled challenges.
Operation Prahar has not only bolstered Uttarakhand Police’s national standing but also reinforced the state’s emerging reputation for strong leadership and innovation in public safety.
