The Aryavarth Express North 24 Parganas (West Bengal): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhamion Thursday took part in a public rally during the BJP’s ‘Parivartan Yatra’ in North 24 Parganas district as political activities intensify ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections.
A large crowd gathered at the rally, marking the beginning of the party’s election campaign in the region.
Speaking to earlier in the day, Dhami criticised the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, alleging that people in the state have faced years of “oppression, fear and corruption” under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership.
“The people of Bengal have faced oppression for a long time. They have lived with fear, corruption and a weak health sector. The Parivartan Yatra is being carried out at nine different locations across the state. The people have made up their minds for change,” Dhami said.
He added that the BJP is reaching out to villages across the state as part of its statewide outreach programme.
“BJP workers are connecting with every village. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, double-engine governments are being formed across the country,” he said.
Raising concerns about law and order in the state, Dhami alleged that many people in West Bengal had suffered for exercising their right to vote.
“The people of Bengal have suffered a lot under this government. Many have even lost their lives simply for casting their vote. Those who believe in the Constitution are being targeted and threatened. We want Bengal to grow and prosper like other states,” he said.
The Uttarakhand chief minister also raised the issue of illegal immigration, alleging that the state government has allowed illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to settle in the state for electoral gains.
The ‘Parivartan Yatra’ is a large-scale statewide campaign ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The campaign is expected to cover more than 5,000 kilometres and include 63 major rallies along with 282 smaller public gatherings across the state.
