Mainpuri (Uttar Pradesh): The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday arrested the second accused in a snatching case reported on January 1, 2026, after he was injured during a brief encounter with police in Mainpuri.
According to officials, the accused sustained a gunshot injury to his leg during the operation and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. Police also recovered the motorcycle used in the crime along with the stolen earrings. The accused reportedly has around 25 criminal cases registered against him.
Providing details, Additional Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh said that on January 1, a man and a woman were stopped by miscreants, who snatched earrings and cash from them. An FIR was registered and an investigation was launched, leading to the arrest of one accused earlier, who was sent to jail.
“Today, the second accused was traced. During an encounter with the police, he was injured in the leg and later taken to the hospital. The motorcycle used in the crime and the stolen earrings have been recovered,” Singh said, adding that the accused is a history-sheeter with multiple cases against him.
Earlier, in a separate incident in November 2025, a police encounter took place near Kasairu Cut in Khurja Nagar when officers intercepted two suspicious motorcycles carrying four individuals. According to Khurja Circle Officer Purnima Singh, the suspects opened fire on the police after being signalled to stop at a checkpoint.
In the exchange, two of the miscreants were injured and later identified as Aman from Aligarh and Govind from Kannauj. They were taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the other two suspects were taken into custody.
