Firozabad (Uttar Pradesh):
Firozabad police on Monday arrested a man accused in a minor rape case following an encounter during an arrest operation, officials said. The accused sustained a gunshot injury to his leg after allegedly opening fire at the police team.
According to police, a case was registered earlier in the day against the accused, identified as Sehroj Khan, son of Firoz Khan. Two police teams were formed to track him down. Acting on a tip-off about his presence on Pranpur Road, the teams launched a swift operation to apprehend him.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Chaudhary said that when police attempted to arrest the accused, he allegedly fired at them with the intent to escape. Police retaliated, during which the accused was shot in the leg and injured.
“A 315-bore pistol, two empty cartridges and one live cartridge were recovered from the accused,” ASP Chaudhary said, adding that the injured man was taken into custody and shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police officials confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and further investigation is being carried out in connection with the case.
