Agartala (Tripura): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday said that the Union Budget 2026 places strong emphasis on development across all sectors, including education, health, defence, and infrastructure, while prioritising the welfare of youth, farmers, the poor, and women.
Addressing the Budget Yuva Conference organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Pradesh Yuva Morcha in Agartala, Saha said the budget reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047 and outlines the country’s developmental roadmap.
The Chief Minister noted that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget for nearly one hour and 25 minutes and highlighted her distinction as the only woman finance minister to have presented the Union Budget nine consecutive times. He said this year’s budget presentation marked around the 80th Union Budget, adding that the earlier practice of presenting the Railway Budget separately was discontinued after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister.
Explaining the significance of the budget, Saha said it defines the country’s income and expenditure while identifying priority sectors for growth. “The budget determines the direction of development in sectors such as infrastructure and health. This year, about 15 per cent of the total budget has been allocated to the defence sector,” he said.
The Chief Minister further stated that Prime Minister Modi consistently focuses on four key sections of society—youth, farmers, the poor, and women—and asserted that holistic development of these groups would strengthen social harmony. He said several provisions in the budget have been framed keeping these sections in mind.
Highlighting employment initiatives, Saha said the budget targets the creation of 3.5 crore jobs, with the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana playing a key role in achieving this goal. He added that the budget also places significant emphasis on farmers’ welfare by ensuring fair prices for agricultural produce and strengthening agricultural infrastructure.
The event was attended by BJP State President and MP Rajib Bhattacharya, former MP Rebati Tripura, Yuva Morcha President and MLA Sushanta Deb, along with other party leaders and workers.
