“BJP’s Pankaja Munde: ‘love jihad’ not on central government’s agenda”

New Delhi (Agency): BJP leader Pankaja Munde has stated that 'love jihad' is not on the agenda of the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During a press conference in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Munde emphasized that love should be respected and that if a woman is tricked into an interfaith marriage, it should be seen differently.

Responding to a specific question about 'love jihad,' Munde reiterated that it has never been a subject of discussion for the Modi government. She emphasized that the government's focus is on development and progress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to put the country on the path of development in the next 25 years.

However, it is worth noting that on May 16, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that his government takes a serious view of 'love jihad,' religious conversion, and the promotion of terrorist activities. He asserted that such practices would not be tolerated in the state.

Chouhan made these remarks while discussing the recent actions taken by the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad against members associated with the radical Islamic organization Hizb-ut-Tahrir in Bhopal. He assured that investigations were underway, and the state would not tolerate activities related to 'love jihad' or religious conversion.

It is important to highlight that the BJP had previously promised to introduce a law against 'love jihad' ahead of the Gujarat Assembly elections last year.

Munde emphasized that the central government's nine years under Prime Minister Modi's leadership have been characterized by all-round development and welfare policies. She highlighted the government's commitment to progress and emphasized that 'love jihad' is not a part of their agenda.

The clarification from Pankaja Munde comes in response to ongoing discussions and debates surrounding the concept of 'love jihad.' While some politicians and groups express concerns about forced religious conversions and deceptive interfaith marriages, others argue that 'love jihad' is a baseless and discriminatory term.

The issue continues to be a topic of debate, with varying perspectives on the matter. Munde's statement provides clarity on the central government's stance, emphasizing their focus on development and progress rather than engaging in discussions related to 'love jihad.'
