New Delhi: Indian passengers arriving at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport from Dubai on Friday said that the United Arab Emirates remained safe despite the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
Travellers told that the UAE government provided significant assistance after several flights were cancelled due to the tense situation in the region. Authorities reportedly arranged hotel accommodations and support for stranded tourists.
Rahul Ghosh, a passenger travelling from Kuwait via Dubai, said he did not experience any safety concerns. “When we reached Dubai, we were informed that our flight had been cancelled because of the war. But there was no struggle or panic. Dubai felt completely safe,” he said.
Another passenger also praised the UAE government’s response, stating that officials provided hotels and ensured travellers were taken care of during the disruptions.
Meanwhile, coordination between airport authorities and airline officials has helped ease the situation for passengers who faced uncertainty due to widespread delays and cancellations.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed that 281 flights operated by Indian domestic carriers were cancelled amid the evolving situation in West Asia.
In a post on X, the ministry said it is closely monitoring developments and advised passengers to regularly check their flight status and follow updates from their respective airlines.
The ministry also stated that a 24×7 Passenger Assistance Control Room (PACR) has been set up to support travellers. So far, 1,461 grievances have been resolved through AirSewa, social media platforms, and helpline calls in coordination with airlines and other stakeholders.
The conflict in the region has now entered its seventh day after the US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which reportedly killed several key figures. Iran has since launched retaliatory strikes targeting American military bases and Israeli-linked assets across the region.
