Patna (Bihar):
The Patna Police on Sunday suspended two police officers in connection with the death of a NEET aspirant at a hostel in the city, citing delayed action and failure to gather intelligence in a timely manner.
The suspended officers have been identified as Roshni Kumari, Station House Officer of Chitragupta Nagar police station, and Hemant Jha, Additional Station House Officer of Kadamkuan police station.
In a press statement, the Patna Police said the action was taken following a review of Chitraguptanagar Police Station Case No. 14/26. Senior officers found lapses in intelligence collection and delays in responding to developments related to the case.
“During the review of Chitraguptanagar Police Station Case No. 14/26, Additional Station House Officer Hemant Jha of Kadamkuan and Station House Officer Roshni Kumari of Chitraguptanagar have been suspended with immediate effect for their failure to collect intelligence and take timely action,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, forensic findings have added a new dimension to the investigation. According to a press release issued by the Social Media Cell of the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police, traces of human semen were found on an undergarment allegedly worn by the deceased at the time of death.
“During examination conducted by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), traces of human sperm were detected on an undergarment linked to the deceased. A DNA profile is being prepared from the sample,” the release said.
Police said the DNA profile will be matched with that of the accused who has already been arrested, as well as with samples from other suspects identified by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), as part of the ongoing probe.
Earlier, Patna Sadar Assistant Superintendent of Police Abhinav Kumar said that a thorough investigation is underway and that all possible angles are being examined.
An SIT has been constituted by the Bihar Police to investigate the case. Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi earlier said that the Bihar government is taking all necessary steps to ensure justice, adding that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also taken over the case.
“The Bihar government is taking all necessary measures. An SIT has been formed and the CBI has also taken over the case. Whoever is guilty will not be spared,” Manjhi said, assuring that further steps would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
Further investigation in the case is ongoing.
