Washington, D.C.: US President Donald Trump has said that the United States will not permit men to compete in women’s sporting events during the 2028 Summer Olympics, reiterating his administration’s stance on gender policies in sports.
Speaking on the issue, Trump stated that he had signed an executive order declaring that the US government recognises only two genders—male and female—and stressed that the policy would apply to international sporting events hosted by the country.
“I’m also keeping the men out of women’s sports. I signed an executive order declaring that there are only two genders, male and female. Complicated, isn’t it? We have put the world on notice that America will not allow men to compete against women in the 2028 Olympics,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, organisers have already released the detailed competition schedule for the 2028 Olympics, which will be held primarily in Los Angeles. The schedule was unveiled in November 2025, with the first medal event set to be the triathlon.
The Los Angeles 2028 Olympics are expected to be the largest edition of the Games so far, featuring 51 sports across 49 disciplines, with events taking place across 18 venues in Los Angeles and Oklahoma City.
According to organisers, the Opening Ceremony will take place on July 14, 2028, while the Closing Ceremony is scheduled for July 30, 2028.
LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover said preparations are underway as fans and athletes begin planning for the Games.
“With Olympic ticket registration opening in January 2026, now is the time to start planning which events you want to attend, which sports are coming to your neighbourhood, and the moments of history you don’t want to miss,” Hoover said, as quoted by Olympics.com.
He added that athletes and spectators from around the world now have the information they need to prepare for an “unforgettable Olympic experience.”
