Pahalgam (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], December 30: Tourists visiting Pahalgam are paying homage at Shaheed Marg, a memorial built in remembrance of the 26 people who lost their lives in the terrorist attack at Baisaran Valley on April 22, 2025.
Located near one of Pahalgam’s popular tourist spots, the memorial has emerged as a place of reflection and tribute, with visitors offering flowers and prayers for the victims. Many tourists have made it a point to stop at the site during their visit, describing the memorial as a meaningful initiative by the government to honour those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
A tourist from Karnataka urged people not to be fearful about travelling to the region. “People should visit this place again and not think that attacks happen here all the time. I am a traveller myself and can say the area is well secured now. Adequate security measures are in place, and people should have faith in the Indian Army,” the tourist said.
Another visitor from Kerala, who travelled to Pahalgam with a group, also expressed confidence in the security arrangements. “We came here as a group of four. If there was any danger, we would not have visited. The security here is good, and we also came to see the memorial built for the tourists who lost their lives in the attack,” the tourist said.
Himanshu, a tourist from Sonipat in Haryana, said the memorial left a lasting impression on him. “I came here two to three days ago with my wife. I am glad to see a memorial built in their memory and specially came to pay my respects. Security is visible everywhere, checks are being conducted, people are warm, and the weather is pleasant. Everyone should come here,” he said.
On April 22, 2025, terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists and locals in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, killing 26 people. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. According to officials, the operation resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists.
