Suryapet (Telangana): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Sunday warned that persistent attacks on BRS workers by Congress activists could compel his party to retaliate, potentially leading to a breakdown of law and order. He urged Congress leaders to desist from what he termed “irresponsible politics.”
KTR visited Lingampally village in the Tungaturthi constituency of Suryapet district to pay tributes to BRS worker Uppala Mallaiah, who was allegedly killed by Congress activists. He offered floral tributes to Mallaiah’s portrait, expressed condolences to the bereaved family, and announced immediate financial assistance of ₹5 lakh. KTR also assured that one family member would be given a government job once BRS returns to power.
Addressing party workers, KTR accused the Congress of resorting to violence and intimidation out of fear of electoral defeat. He questioned the ruling party’s failure to fulfil its promises over the past two years and congratulated BRS cadres for securing nearly 50 per cent of sarpanch and ward member seats in the recent Panchayat elections despite alleged threats and pressure. Expressing confidence, he said BRS would return to power.
Several senior BRS leaders, including former minister Jagadish Reddy, former MLAs Gadari Kishore Kumar, Mallaiah Yadav and Budida Bixamayya, former MP Lingayya Yadav, MLC Kotireddy, and party workers attended the programme.
Earlier, KTR launched a scathing attack on the Congress government over Telangana’s declining revenue growth, accusing it of damaging the state’s economy. In a post on X, he said Telangana’s revenue receipts had grown by 220 per cent between 2014 and 2023 during the BRS regime, but fell to negative growth under the Congress government. He termed the Congress leadership’s plans to celebrate its second anniversary in power as “unfathomable” in light of the state’s economic performance.
KTR also reiterated that the Congress had historically “betrayed” Telangana and described it as the “permanent villain” in the state’s story. He emphasised that Telangana’s formation was possible only due to the efforts of KCR and the sacrifices of the people, adding that BRS would restore Telangana’s pride by replacing the Rajiv Gandhi statue at the Secretariat with a statue of Telangana Talli.
