The Aryavarth Express

Hyderabad – In response to a heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Telangana government has cancelled all leave for irrigation department officials for the next four days.

Irrigation, Food and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has instructed all irrigation officials to remain stationed at their respective duty posts and remain on high alert. Officials have been directed to monitor all irrigation projects, including reservoirs, canals, and tanks, and to take swift action at the first sign of any potential breach or damage.

In the event of any alarming developments, officials must immediately inform the district Collector, the district Chief Engineer, and the Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation). The Principal Secretary (Irrigation) and Engineer-in-Chief have also been tasked with monitoring the situation across all districts.

Minister Reddy further stated that any irrigation official can contact him directly if a serious situation arises concerning irrigation infrastructure or water bodies.

This move follows directives issued by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who, during a video conference with senior officials and district Collectors on Tuesday evening, emphasized the need for precautionary measures to prevent loss of life and property due to flooding. The meeting was held at the Command Control Centre in light of the IMD’s forecast of heavy rainfall over the next 72 hours.

The Chief Minister also directed that no vehicle movement be allowed across flooded bridges, canals, streams, or causeways, especially in low-lying areas. Protective measures are also to be taken to safeguard livestock such as cattle, goats, and sheep during the heavy downpour.

Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao has been asked to appoint senior officers as Special Officers for districts expected to be hit hardest by the rains. All governmentpersonnel have been ordered to report to their field duties immediately and remain available throughout the emergency period.
