Agency(Assam): In a major operation, the Punjab Police have successfully busted an elaborate online job fraud racket with the arrest of four individuals from Assam. This decisive action came in response to a woman’s complaint of being cheated out of Rs 25 lakh.

During the raid, the police confiscated a variety of equipment used in the fraud, including swipe and biometric scanners, multiple identity and financial documents, electronic devices, and government stamps. These materials were instrumental in the gang’s fraudulent activities.

ADGP (Cyber Crime) V Neeraja explained that this bust was a result of a thorough investigation that led to the heart of the scam in Assam. Jahirul Islam and Rafiul Islam, arrested in Nagaon district, admitted to their involvement in fabricating official documents and exploiting them for financial gain.

Mehabub Alam, captured in Guwahati, revealed his part in the scheme, involving providing bank accounts to Azizur Rehman, who was arrested in Morigaon district. The investigation has uncovered that the gang defrauded 160 people from various states, and the numbers could rise as the probe continues.

Further, the police have found evidence pointing to the involvement of international operators, who were likely receiving funds in the form of cryptocurrency, indicating a complex and widespread criminal network.
