The Aryavarth Express
Agency (New Delhi): The Delhi Police have arrested a 38-year-old woman, formerly employed in civil defense, who impersonated a “courier boy” and attempted to rob her neighbor in the Chhawla area of southwest Delhi. The suspect, identified as Rekha and a resident of Somesh Vihar in Chhawla, was apprehended on Wednesday.

The police recovered several items from Rekha, including a courier bag, a toy pistol, gloves, two ropes, an umbrella, and a helmet. According to the police, Rekha had been unemployed for some time and was struggling to manage her household expenses.

The incident occurred on May 23, when the police received a call about an attempted robbery. The complainant reported that around 11:30 am, a person posing as a courier boy came to her house and asked for a pen to sign a delivery paper. When the complainant went inside to fetch the pen, the impostor followed her, attacked her with a toy pistol, and caused her face to bleed. The attacker, who had their face covered with a towel and wore a helmet and gloves, fled when the complainant shouted for help.

The following day, the police received information that the suspect was hiding in Somesh Vihar. Based on CCTV footage, Rekha was arrested, as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh.

Rekha had targeted her neighbor because she believed the woman was wealthy and stayed alone during the day. On May 23, she disguised herself as a courier boy, covering her face with a towel and wearing a helmet. She carried a toy pistol, gloves, rope, and clothes in her backpack, a courier bag in her hand, and an umbrella over her head.

After her robbery attempt failed, Rekha fled and changed her clothes on the stairs of a neighboring house. She later returned to the victim’s house and mingled with the people gathered there to avoid suspicion.
