VP Dhankhar to Grace 25th IIT Guwahati Convocation as Chief Guest

Vice President Dhankhar to attend IIT Guwahati's 25th convocation amid tightened security measures.

New Delhi (Agency): Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar is poised to make a landmark visit to Assam on Tuesday, with the principal objective of attending the 25th convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG), as per official sources.

Upon landing at the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi Airport, the Vice President is expected to make a religious visit to the revered Kamakhya Temple, located atop the Nilachal Hills, to pay his respects.

Post his spiritual sojourn, Dhankhar will then proceed to IITG, situated in northern Guwahati, to grace the convocation ceremony as the chief guest. This illustrious event will also see the presence of esteemed personalities like Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Following the formalities of the convocation, Vice President Dhankhar is slated to engage in an interactive session with the institute’s students. His visit to Assam will be concluded with a return flight to New Delhi later that evening.

The convocation ceremony will mark the graduation of approximately 1,990 students from the prestigious institute this year. Earlier, Dhankhar had graced the 21st convocation of Dibrugarh University on May 3.

In preparation for this significant event, the Kamrup district administration has amped up security measures, particularly around the IITG campus. District Magistrate Keerthi Jalli issued an order prohibiting drone operations within the district’s jurisdiction for the entire day.

Moreover, the Guwahati Police have imposed temporary restrictions on goods vehicles plying on NH-27 and NH-17 from 6 am to 9 pm. Furthermore, commercial goods vehicles’ movement will be limited from the airport to the Kamakhya Temple between 7:30 am and 12:30 pm, as per an official statement.
