Uttarakhand’s Badrinath National Highway Obstructed Due to Heavy Rains

Landslides and heavy rainfall block parts of Badrinath National Highway, causing disruptions and casualties.

New Delhi (Agency): In Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, many parts of the Badrinath National Highway have been closed. This has happened because of the heavy rains in the region. Officials from Chamoli confirmed this on Tuesday.

The Chamoli Police mentioned that many areas of the highway are blocked. Some of these areas include Pipalkoti, Gadora, Navodaya Vidyalaya Pipalkoti, Gulabkoti, Pagalnala, and Vishnuprayag.

On the day before, on Monday, a landslide caused by the rain blocked the highway. This happened in Pipalkoti. Because of this landslide, several cars got buried under rocks and mud that fell from the mountain. Chamoli District Magistrate, Mr. Himanshu Khurana, said that one person was also trapped under the rocks and dirt in Pipalkoti because of the landslide.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave a warning on the same day. This warning, called a “red alert,” said that six districts of the state will have very heavy rain for the next day. The places that might get affected by these rains are Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar. They also said that there could be big thunderstorms and a lot of lightning in these areas.

This monsoon season, rain has caused a lot of problems in Uttarakhand. According to official records, 52 people have died because of rain-related problems. Another 37 people got hurt. The heavy rains have caused many landslides, and fast floods in many places.

The chief minister has given orders because of these problems. He has asked for special teams to help people in places where the rain has caused the most damage. These teams are called SDRF and NDRF. They are now working in areas that have been badly affected by the rain.

The heavy rains in Uttarakhand have caused many problems. The Badrinath National Highway is blocked in many places. Landslides and floods have hurt and killed many people. Because of this, special teams are helping in the affected areas.
