Toll Hike at 20 Booths in Tamil Nadu Takes Effect, Including Dindigul, Trichy, and Madurai

This increase is part of a larger toll hike implemented in two phases at a total of 54 toll booths in the state. The hike follows the approval of the National Highways Authority and brings about adjustments in toll fees for various vehicle types.

The toll hike at 20 toll booths in Tamil Nadu has officially commenced, starting from midnight on September 1, 2023. These toll booths, which include well-known locations such as Dindigul, Trichy, Salem, Mettupatti, Ulundurpet, Madurai, and Thoothukudi, are subject to the adjusted toll rates.

The toll hike in Tamil Nadu is part of a larger plan that involves a phased implementation. In total, 54 toll booths across the state will experience this toll increase. The National Highways Authority has given approval for annual toll hikes, with certain tolls seeing adjustments in April and the remaining tolls in September.

Among the toll booths affected, the Eliyarpatti toll booth on the Madurai-Aruppukkottai road will experience changes in toll fees. For various vehicle categories, the toll rates have been revised. Specifically, for cars, vans, and jeeps, the toll fee has increased from 85 rupees to 90 rupees for a single trip, and from 125 rupees to 135 rupees for two trips. The monthly fee has also been adjusted, rising from Rs 2505 to Rs 2740.

Light vehicles will also experience altered toll fees. One-way trips for light vehicles will now cost Rs 160 (previously Rs 145), while two-way trips will cost Rs 240 (previously Rs 220). The monthly fee for light vehicles will be Rs 4,800, up from Rs 4,385. Similarly, the toll fees for heavy vehicles, including lorries and buses, have increased to Rs 320 for one trip (previously Rs 290) and Rs 480 for two trips (previously Rs 440). The monthly fee for heavy vehicles has risen from Rs 8770 to Rs 9595.
