Sudden Spike in Dengue Cases Rings Alarm Bells in Kanpur

Kanpur experiences a sudden rise in dengue patients, causing concern in the city's health department. Hospitals are taking steps to control the situation.

New Delhi (Agency): Kanpur, a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, is grappling with a sudden increase in the number of dengue cases. The city’s health department is on high alert, taking various measures to control the situation.

Ursula Hospital, the largest government hospital in Kanpur, has recently set up a special ward for dengue patients. “Due to fluctuations in weather, dengue patients are continuously increasing and at present, three patients have been admitted in Ursula Hospital, two in Kashiram Hospital, one in Ghatampur and one in Sarsaul and their treatment is going on. At present all dengue patients are said to be out of danger,” said Dr. Shailendra Tiwari, the Chief Medical Superintendent and Deputy Director of Ursula Hospital.

The number of dengue-positive patients has reached 28 as of Thursday. This increase is not limited to Kanpur; the situation is also worrisome in Varanasi, another city in Uttar Pradesh. Hospitals there are seeing a large number of patients.

Dr. Shashibhushan Upadhyay, Senior Physician at Divisional Hospital, Kabir Chaura in Varanasi, highlighted the precautions being taken. “People are being instructed by the hospital administration to be careful, but the number of dengue patients in the hospitals is increasing. Most of the patients in the Divisional Hospital of Varanasi are kept under mosquito nets so that the infection does not spread to other patients in the hospital.”
