Siddaramaiah Takes Jibe at Modi’s ‘God Sent’ Remark

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah criticizes PM Modi's 'God sent' comment, questions BJP's commitment to pluralism and social equity.

Agency (Karnataka): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken a sharp swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his recent remark suggesting he was ‘sent by God.’ Siddaramaiah questioned the legitimacy of such a claim and emphasized that turning India into a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ is not feasible due to the country’s diverse nature.

The CM’s remarks were made during an event organized by the state Congress to commemorate the death anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Siddaramaiah said, “Narendra Modi now says he was sent by god. Look at the irony. He says—god has sent me to make Viksit Bharat by 2047. Is he the incarnation of god?”

He criticized Modi for not launching any programs aimed at helping the poor, Dalits, backward classes, minorities, and unemployed individuals. “There should be equality among all and equal opportunity for all… has he taken efforts to achieve it?” Siddaramaiah questioned.

The Karnataka CM accused Modi of making divisive comments to garner votes by polarizing Hindus and Muslims. “Fully aware of their (BJP/NDA) defeat, Narendra Modi is uttering whatever comes out of his mouth. He is doing it intentionally for the sake of votes by dividing Hindus and Muslims.”

Siddaramaiah’s comments came in response to Modi’s interview with a national news channel, where the PM reportedly said he was not biological but sent by God. This statement has sparked controversy and criticism from various quarters.

Siddaramaiah argued that the BJP does not believe in pluralism, stating, “This is a country that represents pluralism with multiple religions, castes, and languages. In a country that is so diverse, autocracy, and statements like we will make this a Hindu Rashtra is a dream talk. It is not possible in this country, one has to clearly understand this.”

He also credited Nehru for establishing democracy in India, setting up numerous public sector industries and educational institutions, and building large dams. Siddaramaiah challenged Modi’s claim that Congress did nothing for India by asking, “Has he constructed at least one dam or established a public sector industry in 10 years?”
