New Delhi (Agency): On Thursday, Delhi Police released a traffic advisory to the public in anticipation of the Tazia processions scheduled to take place across the city to mark Muharram. The advisory informed that Muharram will be observed in the city on Friday and Saturday.

The Tazia procession, a traditional Muharram procession, is set to commence on Friday around 9 pm from several locations, including Chhatta Shahzad and Kalan Mahal. It will then pass through several city landmarks including Kamra Bangash, Chitli Qabar, Churi Walan, and Matia Mahal, before reaching Jama Masjid. After that, the procession will reverse its route.

Another procession will set off from the Old Police Chowki and pass through multiple sites, including Ashok Basti, Qutub Road, and Khari Baoli, before concluding at Jama Masjid. The processions from Nizamuddin, Okhla, and Mehrauli will proceed directly to Karbala.

Several more processions will be organized in various parts of the city, each terminating at the local Karbala of their respective districts. The processions are set to resume at 11 am on Saturday, following similar routes as the day before, and ultimately assemble at Karbala, Jor Bagh.

City bus routes will also be adjusted due to the processions. Some buses will have their routes curtailed at specific points, while others will be redirected via alternative roads. For instance, buses headed to the New Delhi Railway Station will be curtailed at Aram Bagh.

The advisory also warned of potential traffic disruptions on various roads due to other local processions. As such, those traveling to the New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday are advised to avoid Connaught Place and instead reach Ajmeri Gate through other routes.

To ensure a smooth flow of traffic, traffic management measures will be put in place from 12 pm to 9.30 pm on several roads. Traffic is likely to slow down along the procession routes and nearby roads, so commuters are advised to avoid these areas.

The advisory encouraged residents to make use of the metro services for uninterrupted journeys, especially on affected routes, amid the Muharram celebrations.
