Karnataka Minister D Sudhakar Booked Under Atrocities Act, BJP Calls for Resignation

Karnataka Minister D Sudhakar faces allegations of trespassing and assault in a property dispute; BJP demands his immediate resignation.

New Delhi (Agency): In a developing controversy, Karnataka Minister D Sudhakar has been booked by Bengaluru police following a complaint by a woman. She alleges that the minister, along with others, committed atrocities against her family and physically assaulted her daughter over a property dispute. The minister has been booked under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities Act) 1989 and various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The complaint states that the minister and his associates forcefully entered the disputed property located in Yelahanka, Bengaluru, while no one was at home. According to the complainant, they used construction equipment to demolish parts of the building and compound wall. When the family arrived and questioned them, they were allegedly overpowered and subject to casteist remarks.

A video circulating on social media purportedly shows the Planning and Statistics Minister using abusive and threatening language. Sudhakar, however, denies these allegations, stating they are “completely false” and part of a “conspiracy” against him because he is a minister.

“After the incident, I met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara to discuss the case,” said Sudhakar. “I am open to any inquiry; there is law and court.”

Basavaraj Bommai, a leader from the opposition BJP and former Chief Minister, has demanded Sudhakar’s resignation. He urged the police to deal with the case impartially and resist any potential pressure. In contrast, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar called the allegations a “false case” and ruled out the possibility of Sudhakar’s resignation.

“It is a civil dispute. They are trying to misuse the Atrocities Act; it shouldn’t have been done,” said Shivakumar. “I have checked with Sudhakar and others. Nothing has happened, and everyone has to respect the law.”

The case has drawn significant attention and is currently under investigation. It adds another layer to the ongoing tensions in Karnataka politics, with differing opinions within the government and opposition about the gravity of the allegations and the actions that should follow.
