Illegal Lifts Operate in Over 100 Gurugram Buildings Due to Lack of NOCs

A recent inspection by the Electrical Inspector's Department reveals that more than 100 buildings in Gurugram are operating lifts without obtaining necessary no objection certificates (NOCs). The department plans to take action and verify the lift installations in these buildings.

New Delhi (Agency): Concerns have arisen in Gurugram as it has come to light that lifts are operating illegally in over 100 buildings due to the absence of essential no objection certificates (NOCs). This revelation emerged during an inspection conducted by the Electrical Inspector’s Department of Registration.

Officials have reported that over the last eight months, only 200 buildings have completed the registration process for their lifts, while possession certificates have been issued to more than 1,000 multi-storey houses, including those with stilt parking.

To address this issue, the department intends to take appropriate action after obtaining reports from the relevant authorities responsible for overseeing the installation of lifts in buildings.

The department has highlighted the discrepancy between the number of lifts registered and the number of buildings in need of registration.

To address this situation, reports on possession certificates issued to buildings with four or more storeys will be sought from various authorities, including the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), formerly known as the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), the District Town Planner Planning Department, and the Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG).

The installation of a lift is typically approved as part of the building’s construction plan, and possession certificates are issued only after a comprehensive inspection of the building’s compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate whether lifts in these buildings have the necessary NOCs.

According to the department, only 200 lifts have been registered in the past eight months. These registrations include 17 lifts in January, 39 in February, 11 in March, 32 in April, 28 in May, 29 in June, 19 in July, and 25 in August. It’s important to note that multi-storey buildings can have anywhere from two to 16 lifts, and all of them must adhere to the registration requirements as per the established rules.

The areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) include Sector-46, 47, 48, 49, 50 to 57, Sushant Lok Phase-2 and 3, DLF Phase-1 to 3, Palam Vihar, and others.

A senior official from the department commented, “In eight months, lifts in 200 buildings have been registered. Information about the possession certificates of houses issued by HSVP, DTP Planning, and MCG will be obtained. Appropriate action will be taken after inspecting the lifts installed in these houses.” The department is taking these steps to ensure the safety and compliance of lifts in buildings across Gurugram.
