Alert! Widespread Rains Expected in Coastal Andhra Pradesh

The Meteorological department warns of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in coastal Andhra Pradesh for the next five days due to a low pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal, potentially turning into a depression. Residents urged to be cautious.

Amaravati (Agency): Residents of coastal Andhra Pradesh are advised to brace themselves for widespread rainfall as the Meteorological department forecasts an increase in rainfall activity. A low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression, likely leading to heavy rainfall in parts of north and coastal Andhra in the coming days.

An official from the Met department stated that the low pressure area, currently located off the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha, is expected to concentrate into a depression within the next 24 hours. This weather system will likely result in widespread rainfall across several parts of the state over the next five days.

The depression is projected to move in a north-westerly direction, impacting the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts. As a result, extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated on Tuesday in isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at some isolated locations over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

Coastal areas in the north and south are also likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, with wind speeds ranging from 30 to 40 km per hour. The Met department has issued a specific warning for Friday and Saturday, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, along with strong winds reaching 30 to 40 km per hour in certain areas of the southern state.

Vijayawada city and its nearby areas have already witnessed rainfall since Monday, signaling the onset of the anticipated weather changes.

Residents in the affected regions are urged to exercise caution during this period of heavy rainfall and potential thunderstorms. It is advisable to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.

As the depression develops further, authorities will closely monitor its movement and issue relevant advisories to keep the public informed and prepared for any adverse weather conditions.
