AISA Announces Candidate Lineup for Delhi University Students Union Elections

The All India Students' Association (AISA) has revealed its candidates for the upcoming Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections, set for September 22.

The All India Students’ Association (AISA) has announced its candidates for the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections. The elections, which will take place on September 22, come after a gap of four years. Due to COVID-19 and disruptions to the academic calendar, no elections were held in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

AISA named Aiyesha Ahmad Khan as its candidate for the post of President. She is a student of Miranda House College and comes from Patna. For Vice President, the candidate is Anushka Choudhary, a student of the Law Faculty at Delhi University and a resident of Bahadurgarh in Haryana. Aditya Pratap Singh, who has been an AISA activist since entering the University in 2019, is running for Secretary. Anjali Kumari, a first-year student from Miranda House, is the candidate for Joint Secretary.

AISA released a statement outlining its main agendas for the DUSU elections. These include stopping the dilution of courses, rolling back a new internal grading scheme, ending fee hikes, providing student metro passes at concessional rates, implementing a rent control act, and ensuring hostels are available for all students.

The National Students Union of India (NSUI) has also confirmed its candidates for the elections. They include Abhi Dahiya, Hitesh Gulia, and Shubham Chaudhary.

The DUSU elections hold a significant place in the student politics of India. They offer a platform for young leaders to make a mark and often serve as a starting point for political careers. The elections have not taken place for quite some time due to various factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s elections, therefore, are especially important as they mark a return to a semblance of normalcy for student activities and political engagement on campus.
