Tumakuru (Agency):  In a horrifying incident of honour killing, a minor girl was brutally strangled to death by her own father, brother, and uncle in Tumakuru district, Karnataka.

The 17-year-old victim, Netravati, fell in love with a boy from a Scheduled Caste, which enraged her family. Unable to accept their relationship, her family resorted to heinous measures. Tumakuru SP Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad confirmed on Friday that the three accused individuals, Parashurama, Shivaraju, and Tukaram, have been apprehended.

According to the police, the victim, belonging to a Scheduled Tribe, was residing in a hostel when she developed feelings for a boy named Kumar. The girl had been reported missing two weeks ago, but her parents located her and brought her back home on June 9.

When the girl refused to end her relationship with Kumar, the accused individuals coerced her into consuming poison. In a tragic turn of events, when she resisted their actions, her father Parashurama, brother Shivaraju, and uncle Tukaram strangled her to death using a rope.

The family initially claimed that the girl died from consuming poison and conducted her last rites accordingly. However, sensing something amiss, villagers lodged a complaint with the police.

Initially registered as a case of suicide, the police investigation revealed evidence of murder, leading to the arrest of the accused individuals involved. This tragic incident sheds light on the deep-rooted issue of honour killings that continue to plague our society. The authorities must take strict action against those responsible to ensure justice for the victim and send a strong message against such heinous crimes.
