Kolkata (West Bengal): Former India captain and President of the Cricket Association of Bengal, Sourav Ganguly, congratulated Team India for their outstanding campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, praising the team’s steady improvement throughout the tournament.
Speaking to reporters after India’s title victory, Ganguly said the team showed clear progress and resilience as the competition advanced, which ultimately helped them secure the prestigious trophy.
“Their game improved as the tournament progressed, showing clear development throughout the event. It was very good, and congratulations to them for their exceptional performance,” Ganguly said.
India Defeat New Zealand in Final
India sealed the title with a dominant 96-run victory over New Zealand national cricket team in the final. The win allowed the India national cricket team, popularly known as the Men in Blue, to successfully defend their title.

Became the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil
Became the first team to win back-to-back titles after their triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
Became the first team to win the tournament three times — 2007, 2024, and 2026

India captain Suryakumar Yadav played an important role during the tournament. The right-handed batter scored 242 runs in nine matches, averaging 30.25, including one half-century, making him the third-highest run-scorer for India in the competition.
BCCI Announces ₹131 Crore Reward
Following the historic victory, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a cash reward of ₹131 crore for the players, support staff, and selectors.
In its statement, the board congratulated the entire squad for the landmark achievement and wished the team continued success in the future.
