AFMS and IIT Roorkee Collaborate for Medical Research

Armed Forces Medical Services and IIT Roorkee sign an MoU to advance biomedical research, enhancing combat medical support and patient care for serving personnel.

Agency (New Delhi): In a significant stride towards advancing research in Armed Forces Medical Services, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on February 14, 2024, between the Armed Forces Medical Services and the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. The MoU was formalized by Lt Gen SK Singh, Director General (Org & Pers) on behalf of the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, and Prof Kamal Kishore Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee.

The objective of this MoU is to foster collaborative biomedical research, aiming to enhance combat medical support and patient care for serving personnel. The collaboration extends beyond research to include faculty exchange programs, joint academic activities, and the promotion of startups in the healthcare domain.

Under this MoU, the Armed Forces Medical Services will leverage the expertise of IIT Roorkee in various cutting-edge fields, including the development of novel medical devices, robotics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, underscored the significance of this collaboration with a premier institution like IIT Roorkee, envisioning a future-forward approach to combat and peacetime medical care in the armed forces. Prof Kamal Kishore Pant from IIT Roorkee emphasized the institute’s commitment to prioritizing medical and defense-related research projects, expressing optimism for valuable outcomes from this partnership.

This collaboration marks a pivotal step in harnessing advanced technology and research expertise to improve medical support and care for India’s armed forces personnel.
