The Aryavarth Express Mumbai, Maharashtra: The team of acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansalihas dismissed viral reports claiming that he was hospitalised due to a medical emergency, calling the rumours baseless.
Speculation began circulating on social media around the time of the director’s 63rd birthday on Tuesday, with several unverified posts alleging that the National Award-winning filmmaker had been rushed to a Mumbai hospital. The claims triggered concern among fans and members of the film fraternity, leading to widespread online searches for confirmation. However, no official hospital statement or medical record supported the reports.
Putting an end to the rumours, Bhansali’s representatives issued a formal family statement through official social media handles, clarifying that the filmmaker had only visited a medical facility for a routine check-up.
“Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is doing absolutely fine. He has gone in for a routine medical check-up and there is no cause for concern. We sincerely appreciate the love, care, and concern shown by everyone,” the statement read.
Bhansali, who made his directorial debut with Khamoshi: The Musical, is regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated filmmakers. He is known for directing critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas. He has won National Film Awards for films including Black, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmaavat. Most recently, he directed the period drama series Heeramandi.
Bhansali has also collaborated with filmmaker Ketan Mehta for the upcoming historical drama “Jai Somnath,” set against the backdrop of the 1025–1026 CE invasion of the Somnath Temple by Mahmud of Ghazni. The film, produced under Bhansali Productions and Maya Movies, is slated for release in 2027.
