New Delhi: Indian cricketer Rinku Singh shared an emotional message on social media remembering his late father after being part of India’s T20 World Cup victory. The left-handed batter’s father passed away during the tournament, making the triumph deeply personal and bittersweet for the young cricketer.
Taking to Instagram, Rinku wrote a heartfelt letter recalling his bond with his father and expressing how much he wished he had been present to see him lift the trophy. In his post, Rinku said he had never spent so many days without speaking to his father and admitted he was unsure how life would move forward without him.
He wrote that his father had always taught him that duty comes before everything, and that belief kept him focused on fulfilling his dream while playing for India. Now that the dream has been achieved, Rinku said he only wishes his father could have been there to witness the moment. He added that his father’s absence would be felt in every happiness and that he would miss him deeply.
Rinku’s father, Khanchand Singh, passed away at a hospital in Greater Noida after battling stage-four cancer. His last rites were performed in Aligarh, where a large number of people gathered to pay their respects. The grieving cricketer also carried his father’s mortal remains during the funeral procession.
Earlier in the tournament, Rinku had briefly left the Indian camp to return home when his father’s health deteriorated after India’s Super 8 match against South Africa national cricket team. He later rejoined the squad in Chennai ahead of the match against Zimbabwe national cricket team, which India went on to win. It was shortly after this match that news of his father’s death emerged.
On the field, Rinku had a modest campaign with the bat, often arriving late in the innings with limited balls to face. He scored 24 runs in five innings, remaining unbeaten twice with a highest score of 11. In 10 T20 internationals this year, he has accumulated 115 runs in eight innings at an average of 28.75, with a strike rate of 132.18 and a best score of 44.
Despite the mixed performances, the tournament victory remains a deeply emotional milestone for Rinku — one dedicated to fulfilling the dream his father had always believed in.
