Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand— Rescue efforts are in full swing in Jankichatti following a major landslide that struck the Yamunotri Yatra route, leaving pilgrims and locals in distress. The landslide occurred at Nau Kachi, approximately 3 kilometres ahead of Janaki Chatti, near the Bhairav temple.
Joint teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), district police, forest department, and medical units have been deployed to carry out rescue and relief operations. Aerial drone surveys, supervised by SDRF Commander Arpan Yaduvanshi, are being used to monitor the affected area and detect signs of people who may be trapped.
According to an official statement, the live drone footage is being analyzed in real-time to identify possible danger zones and streamline rescue efforts.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured the public that all necessary resources have been mobilized. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Dhami stated, “Sad news has been received about the landslide at 9 Kachi on the Yamunotri walking route. SDRF, police, forest department, medical, and other teams are present on the spot for relief and rescue work. One injured person has been rescued and sent to PHC Jankichatti for treatment. I pray to God for the well-being of all those affected.”
The situation remains tense as operations continue. Authorities urge pilgrims to stay alert and follow official advisories while the affected route undergoes clearance and restoration.
