New Delhi: The Change of Guard ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan will now take place at a revised time. Beginning this Saturday, March 7, the weekly ceremony will be conducted from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM in the forecourt of the presidential residence.
According to Rashtrapati Bhavan officials, the Change of Guard is a long-standing military tradition with origins dating back to ancient times. Historically, guards and sentries posted at palaces, forts, and defence establishments were replaced at regular intervals, allowing a fresh contingent of troops to take over duty.
The 30-minute ceremonial event, held every Saturday, symbolises the formal transfer of responsibility between the outgoing and incoming guards. During the ceremony, guards and sentries are changed in a structured military drill, continuing a tradition observed across several military establishments.
At Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Ceremonial Army Guard Battalion is responsible for providing the guards and sentries for the President of India.
The ceremony has recently been revamped and relocated to enhance its visual appeal and improve public access. It is now conducted in the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, making it easier for visitors to attend and witness the tradition.
