New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Guru Prakash on Wednesday launched a strong attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, describing him as a “perfect textbook example and case study of separatism in Indian politics.”
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Guru Prakash accused the Congress and opposition leaders of repeatedly resorting to regionalism, casteism, and linguistic chauvinism for political advantage, warning that such tactics threaten national unity, peace, and stability.
The BJP leader alleged that Rahul Gandhi adopts different political narratives in different states purely for electoral gains.
“Whenever Rahul Gandhi goes to Bihar, he tries to incite frenzy in the name of caste, and when he visits Tamil Nadu, he indulges in negative politics in the name of Tamil identity,” Guru Prakash said.
Reiterating his charge, he added, “Rahul Gandhi is a perfect textbook example and case study of separatism in Indian politics. He must refrain from using such divisive language.”
Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks questioning the BJP’s commitment to Tamil issues, Guru Prakash said the Congress leader had no authority to issue certificates on the matter.
“Will Rahul Gandhi give us a certificate? You are not any certifying authority to judge our commitment to Tamil issues or the eternal Tamil civilisational heritage,” he said.
He further asserted that the Narendra Modi-led government has consistently promoted Tamil language, culture, and identity as an integral part of India’s civilisational ethos.
“History shows that in the last 11 years, the sensitivity shown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards Tamil language, culture, and heritage is unprecedented,” Guru Prakash said.
Highlighting the government’s global outreach, he added that Tamil heritage has been accorded equal importance on international platforms such as the United Nations and the G20.
“For the first time, respect for Tamil identity has been showcased not just within India but also across the world,” he said.
Guru Prakash also pointed to Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on linguistic diversity, noting that the Prime Minister frequently encourages learning and respecting regional languages during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ addresses.
“‘One India, Great India’ is not just a slogan; it is a commitment,” he said.
Taking another swipe at the opposition, the BJP spokesperson accused Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders of repeatedly attempting to inflame regional and linguistic divisions, thereby creating obstacles to peace and stability.
His remarks come a day after Rahul Gandhi backed the Vijay-starrer ‘Jana Nayagan’ and criticised the Centre after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) put the film’s certification on hold. Calling it an attack on Tamil culture, Rahul Gandhi said Prime Minister Modi would not succeed in suppressing the voice of the Tamil people.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “The I&B Ministry’s attempt to block ‘Jana Nayagan’ is an attack on Tamil culture. Mr Modi, you will never succeed in suppressing the voice of the Tamil people.”
The controversy unfolds amid rising political activity ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2026, with a triangular contest shaping up between the DMK-Congress alliance, the BJP-AIADMK-led alliance, and actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
