Ludhiana (Punjab), January 7:
Punjab Police on Wednesday arrested two terrorists linked to the Khalistan movement who were reportedly planning a targeted killing in Ludhiana, officials said. The arrests were made in a major intelligence-led operation by the State Special Operation Cell, SAS Nagar, in coordination with Counter Intelligence, Ludhiana. Police also recovered a 9 mm pistol and five live cartridges.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the accused were in contact with handlers based in the UK and Germany associated with the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) and adhered to a hardline extremist ideology.
“On instructions from their handlers, both arrested individuals had conducted reconnaissance of government and prominent offices in Ludhiana as part of the conspiracy. They were also tasked with gathering intelligence and preparing groundwork on several other identified individuals,” the DGP posted on X.
An FIR has been registered at the SAS Nagar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
This comes shortly after another major operation earlier this month. On January 1, Punjab Police dismantled an organised crime gang in Patiala, arresting nine individuals involved in murder, extortion, and targeted killings. Several weapons were recovered during the operation, including nine pistols (.32 bore) and one PX5 pistol (.30 bore).
DGP Yadav said the arrested members were part of a well-organised criminal network actively planning serious offences. “FIRs have been registered, and investigations are ongoing. Punjab Police remains committed to dismantling organised crime and ensuring peace and security across the state,” he added.
