Agency (Uttar Pradesh): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed on Friday that the spirit of Aurangzeb has entered the bodies of Congress leaders, accusing them of wanting to impose a tax similar to the Jizya levied on non-Muslims during Aurangzeb’s rule. Speaking at an election rally in Saran, Bihar, Adityanath supported BJP leader and NDA candidate Rajiv Pratap Rudy, alleging that the opposition INDIA block plans to impose an inheritance tax if they come to power.

“The spirit of Aurangzeb has entered Congress leaders. They are preparing to impose inheritance tax, similar to the Jizya tax imposed on Hindus during Aurangzeb’s rule,” the BJP leader said. He described the Congress’s alleged inheritance tax plan as “dangerous,” claiming it would take away people’s assets and rights.

Adityanath accused the Congress of practicing politics of appeasement and attempting to provide reservations based on religion to benefit Muslims only. He alleged that the Congress and RJD want to deprive Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes of their quotas and divert them to Muslims.

Without naming Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, Adityanath criticized those praising Pakistan, saying, “They are a burden on this country… they must go there and beg.” Aiyar had earlier stated in an interview that it is important to respect Pakistan as a sovereign nation with nuclear bombs, a comment BJP leaders have been using to attack Congress.

Urging Biharis to vote for the NDA, Yogi Adityanath said, “The RJD has become a problem like its ally Congress, which we effectively tackled in UP, reducing their strength to just two in the assembly. In the Lok Sabha polls, they will not be able to open the account.”

Adityanath attacked the Samajwadi Party without naming it, comparing it to the RJD in Bihar. He said, “We had a family ruling the roost in UP, unleashing goonda-raj. We put an end to this.” He urged the people of Bihar to ensure RJD’s defeat in the elections and claimed a vote for the NDA would end “goonda raj.”

“When the Central government under PM Narendra Modi is focusing on Digital India, RJD leaders are talking about lanterns (RJD’s party symbol). Lalu Prasad ji can’t think beyond his family,” he said.

Adityanath also claimed that there have been no curfews or riots in UP since criminals are either in jail or “rotting in hell.” He encouraged Biharis to ensure a third term for Modi to achieve a “Viksit Bharat” (developed India) and a developed Bihar.

The UP CM alleged that the Congress and RJD used to question the existence of Lord Ram. “The ongoing elections are a choice between Ram bhakts and Ram drohis. Jo Ram ko laaye hain, hum unko laayenge (We will bring those to power who brought Ram Lala to Ayodhya temple),” he said.

Saran is seeing a contest between BJP veteran Rajiv Pratap Rudy and RJD’s Rohini Acharya, daughter of Lalu Prasad. Voting in Saran will occur in the fifth phase on May 20.
