Siddaramaiah Accuses BJP of Hypocrisy in Handling Sexual Violence Cases

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah challenges Amit Shah over inconsistent responses to sexual violence, spotlighting the Prajwal Revanna scandal and other cases.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency (Karnataka): Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has publicly questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the BJP’s inconsistent stance on sexual violence cases, using the platform X to highlight his concerns. His remarks followed Shah’s recent condemnation of the alleged sexual offenses committed by Prajwal Revanna, the outgoing MP from Hassan.

Siddaramaiah praised Shah’s denunciation of violence against women but pointed to a pattern of behavior that he believes undermines these statements. He cited several past cases where the BJP allegedly failed to support sexual violence victims, notably involving athletes and high-profile rape cases like those in Bilkis Bano, Unnao, and Hathras, where the BJP was seen as protective of the accused.

The Chief Minister’s post on X articulated a deep skepticism about the sincerity of the BJP’s commitment to fighting sexual violence, reflecting on instances such as the early release and celebration of convicted rapists and the party’s handling of accusations against its own members.

He also highlighted a disturbing incident in Manipur where women were paraded naked, accusing the BJP of turning a blind eye to the atrocity. Siddaramaiah’s communication emphasized the disconnect between the BJP’s public statements and their actions, stating, “Women of the nation know the truth, and it’s time for you to wake up to the reality.”

In addition to his social media posts, Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting the cancellation of Revanna’s diplomatic passport. Revanna, who is the grandson of JD(S) leader and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, has fled to Germany following the leak of thousands of explicit files allegedly involving him in severe criminal acts.

This public confrontation underscores the ongoing tensions in Indian politics surrounding issues of gender violence and the accountability of political figures.
