Rahul Gandhi Embarks on Truck Ride in the US, Engages with Indian-Origin Truck Drivers

Similar to his truck ride in India, the focus of the journey was engaging in heartfelt conversations about the everyday lives of Indian-origin truck drivers in America.

New Delhi (Agency): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently undertook a truck journey from Washington to New York in the United States, where he had a candid conversation with the driver, focusing on the lives of Indian-origin truck drivers in the US.

This truck ride in the US took place during Gandhi's recent visit and followed his previous truck journey from Delhi to Chandigarh, where he aimed to understand the challenges faced by truck drivers.

Continuing his journey to connect with people in India and abroad, Gandhi embarked on a 190-kilometer "American Truck Yatra" from Washington DC to New York. He was accompanied by driver Taljinder Singh Vicky Gill and his companion Ranjeet Singh Banipal. The journey concluded with a delightful breakfast at a local eatery, as stated in a release issued by the Congress party.

Similar to his truck ride in India, the focus of the journey was engaging in heartfelt conversations about the everyday lives of Indian-origin truck drivers in America. Gandhi observed that trucks in the US are designed with the safety and comfort of the driver in mind, which is not always the case in India.

The journey highlighted the disparity between Indian and American truck drivers. While truck drivers in India struggle to make ends meet due to low wages and increasing prices, their American counterparts receive fair compensation and dignity for their work.

During his conversation with Gill, Gandhi discussed various topics including the rising commodity prices, inflation, and the political landscape in India. He emphasized that no religion advocates for spreading hatred.

Throughout the journey, they also enjoyed listening to songs by Sidhu Moosewala.

The statement released by the party noted that there are valuable lessons to be learned from the American trucking industry to formulate a new vision for the Indian trucking industry. Indian truck drivers, who are vital for logistics, deserve to lead a life of dignity. Their progress and well-being will positively impact the entire Indian economy.

Last month, Gandhi's truck ride from Delhi to Chandigarh garnered attention as he interacted with drivers and even stopped at a dhaba (roadside eatery) to engage with locals.

Rahul Gandhi's truck journeys signify his commitment to understanding the challenges faced by truck drivers and his efforts to bring attention to their issues.
