MVA Finalizes Seat Sharing in Maharashtra for Lok Sabha Polls

The Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra has allocated Lok Sabha election seats among its members: Shiv Sena (UBT) will contest 21 seats, Congress 17, and NCP (SP) 10, as they aim to defeat the BJP in the upcoming polls.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency(Maharashtra): The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition in Maharashtra has sealed its electoral pact, distributing the Lok Sabha seats among its three principal components to consolidate efforts against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the forthcoming elections. Under the agreement, the Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray will contest 21 seats, the Congress will vie for 17 seats, and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) will challenge in 10 constituencies.

This strategic seat distribution aims to optimize the coalition’s strengths across the state. For the Shiv Sena (UBT), their allocated constituencies include key areas such as Jalgaon, Nashik, Thane, and multiple seats in Mumbai, reflecting their stronghold in urban centers. The Congress has secured seats like Nagpur, Pune, and Solapur, combining urban and rural regions. The NCP (SP) will contest in its traditional bastions such as Baramati and Satara, along with other critical constituencies like Bhiwandi and Beed.

Nana Patole, president of the Maharashtra Congress, emphasized the coalition’s commitment to a unified front against the BJP, citing past grievances against the treatment of Congress leaders by the BJP as further motivation for this alliance. He also remarked on the challenges faced by the Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) due to party rebels but reaffirmed that the true leaders of these parties are aligned with the MVA’s objectives.

The formation of this pact comes amid fierce political rhetoric, with Thackeray labeling the BJP as a “party of extortionists,” referencing controversies such as the electoral bonds issue. The MVA’s coordinated approach reflects their larger goal of thwarting the BJP’s dominance in Maharashtra, as the state prepares for a phased election process from 19 April to 20 May. This alignment marks a critical phase in Maharashtra’s political landscape, setting the stage for what promises to be a highly contested electoral battle.
