Mamata Banerjee Demands Bengal Governor’s Resignation Over Molestation Allegations

Mamata Banerjee calls for Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose to explain why he should not resign amidst molestation allegations.

Agency (West Bengal): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday criticized Governor C V Ananda Bose over recent molestation allegations, asserting that he must explain why he should not resign. Speaking at a rally in support of TMC’s Hooghly candidate Rachana Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee declared that she would not enter the Raj Bhavan as long as Bose remains the governor.

“The governor says ‘didigiri’ (high-handedness) will not be tolerated… But, I say Mr. Governor, your ‘dadagiri’ will not work anymore,” Banerjee stated emphatically. She continued, “Bose must explain why he should not resign after such allegations were leveled against him.”

Last week, a contractual female employee at the Raj Bhavan lodged a complaint with the Kolkata Police, alleging that Bose had molested her at the governor’s house on April 24 and May 2. In response to the allegations, Bose screened several CCTV footage clips from the Raj Bhavan on May 9 to refute the claims.

However, Banerjee dismissed the governor’s attempt to clear his name, stating, “The governor had released an edited video. I saw the entire footage and its contents are shocking. I have got another video… Your conduct is shameful.” She reinforced her stance by declaring, “I am not going to the Raj Bhavan till he is the governor… I prefer to meet him on the streets.”

These remarks come amid rising tensions between the state government and the Raj Bhavan, further complicating the political landscape in West Bengal. Banerjee’s strong words signal her intent to hold the governor accountable and emphasize the seriousness of the allegations against him.
