New Delhi (Agency): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has voiced skepticism regarding the rationale behind the proposed “One Nation, One Election” concept. In a thought-provoking query, Kejriwal pondered about the tangible benefits that the common man would derive from such a sweeping reform.

Kejriwal’s sentiments were shared through a Hindi post on social media platform X. He posed a fundamental question: “What is important for the country? One Nation One Election Or One Nation One Education (Rich or poor, equal good education for all). One Nation One Treatment (Rich or poor, equal treatment for all).” He underlined the need to prioritize initiatives that offer equal access to education and medical treatment, emphasizing their significance in fostering societal equality.

The “One Nation, One Election” proposal aims to synchronize elections across various levels of government, including the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, municipalities, and panchayats. To deliberate upon this significant matter, the Central government has established an eight-member high-level committee. This committee is tasked with assessing the feasibility of simultaneous elections and submitting recommendations in due course.

Kejriwal’s stance on the issue also touches upon his party’s commitment to welfare policies. During his visit to Haryana’s Bhiwani, alongside Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Kejriwal highlighted that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) remains dedicated to providing free, high-quality education and power to the public. This commitment extends beyond Delhi and Punjab, with Kejriwal asserting that Haryana will also benefit from these provisions.

However, Kejriwal’s views diverge from those expressed by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Without explicitly naming any individual, Khattar had recently emphasized the importance of self-reliance over the distribution of freebies. Kejriwal countered Khattar’s sentiment by highlighting the positive impact of AAP’s initiatives. He stated, “We provide free and world-class education, free and world-class treatment in Delhi. We provide free and 24 hours electricity and water. We have started all these works in Punjab also. And the public is very happy with these facilities. Soon the people of Haryana will also get its benefits.”

As Haryana’s upcoming elections draw closer, Kejriwal’s discourse adds a dynamic layer to the political landscape. The conversation reflects differing ideologies and strategies concerning governance and public welfare. Kejriwal’s emphasis on delivering essential services and fostering social equality aligns with his vision for holistic development.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s questioning of the “One Nation, One Election” concept underscores the importance of evaluating the potential benefits and drawbacks of such a fundamental change in the electoral system. His call for prioritizing education and equal treatment resonates with the broader theme of promoting inclusivity and social justice. As the debate continues, it will be essential to consider the perspectives of both proponents and skeptics to arrive at an informed and balanced decision that aligns with the nation’s interests and values.
