Kapil Sibal Criticizes Modi’s Remarks on Coalition Politics

Kapil Sibal criticizes PM Modi's "sent by god" remarks, emphasizing the human nature of political coalitions and urging discussions on the 'Agnipath' scheme.

Agency (New Delhi): Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal took a sharp jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “sent by god” remarks, highlighting the human nature of political coalitions. On Thursday, Sibal remarked that coalitions are built by humans, not gods, as he discussed the BJP’s reliance on its allies for government formation.

“He (PM Modi) said that God has sent him, and he is a form of God. How can a coalition happen with Gods? The coalition is stitched with humans, not Gods. How can a common minimum program happen with God; it should be a common maximum program,” Sibal told ANI.

Responding to JD(U) leader KC Tyagi’s comments about the ‘Agnipath’ scheme, Sibal pointed out widespread dissatisfaction with the scheme. “Dayalu Bhagwan should think about this, and there should be discussions on this,” he said, urging the NDA to address the scheme’s shortcomings in detail.

Sibal also accused the BJP of attempting to undermine its allies in various states. “Look at JD(U) in Bihar, Shiv Sena in Maharashtra; they always try to finish off their allies,” he stated.

The NDA meeting on Wednesday was the first following the alliance’s majority win, reaffirming the coalition’s solidarity. Top leaders, including Narendra Modi, participated, and Modi was chosen as the leader of the alliance, paving the way for his third consecutive term as Prime Minister.

The Election Commission of India announced that the BJP won 240 seats, and along with its allies, it now holds 293 seats. Support from Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), which won 16 and 12 seats respectively, was crucial for the NDA’s success.

On Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu dissolved the 17th Lok Sabha following the Union Cabinet’s recommendation.
