Indore Congress Candidate Withdraws Amid Alleged Threats

Jitu Patwari, MP Congress chief, claims that their Lok Sabha candidate in Indore withdrew his nomination due to threats and alleged torture.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari has raised serious allegations regarding the withdrawal of Akshay Bam, the party’s candidate for the Indore Lok Sabha seat. According to Patwari, Bam was subjected to threats and torture, leading to his withdrawal from the election process on the final day for nomination submissions, April 29.

The controversy stems from an addition of IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) to a long-standing case against Bam and his father Kantilal, originally registered in October 2007. This escalation occurred after a victim’s request on April 5 this year, which was approved by the court on April 24, adding a new layer of legal challenge for Bam and his father.

Patwari, speaking at a rally, framed the incident as an attack on democratic rights, urging the public to stand against what he termed as dictatorial tactics. This event in Indore mirrors a similar situation in Surat, Gujarat, where the BJP candidate was elected unopposed after irregularities led to the rejection of the Congress nominee’s candidacy.

The MP Congress chief criticized the ruling BJP for using official machinery to influence electoral outcomes and reiterated his call for the public to defend democracy and the constitution. This incident has intensified the political battle in the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, highlighting the tensions and challenges facing the electoral process in India.
