Haryana Congress Claims BJP Government in Minority, Calls for Fresh Polls

Haryana Congress claims BJP government is in the minority and calls for its resignation and fresh elections, citing lack of public trust and adequate numbers in the Assembly.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency (Haryana): The Congress in Haryana reiterated on Monday that the BJP government, led by Nayab Singh Saini, is in the minority and lacks the moral right to remain in power. After the Haryana Congress’ Legislature Party (CLP) meeting, party leader Deepender Singh Hooda addressed reporters, asserting that if the minority government does not resign, the governor should dismiss it and call for fresh elections.

“We have been saying the government is in the minority because it does not have the adequate numbers. Three Independent MLAs withdrew their support last month. They don’t have the moral right to continue in power,” Hooda stated. He emphasized that the government has not only lost its numbers in the Assembly but also the public’s trust.

Currently, the BJP holds 41 MLAs in the 88-member Assembly, with additional support from an Independent and the sole MLA of the Haryana Lokhit Party. Two JJP MLAs have also shown support in recent weeks.

The CLP meeting, chaired by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, focused on recent Lok Sabha election results, where the Congress won five out of ten seats in Haryana, and strategized for the upcoming state Assembly elections in October.

Regarding a potential alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Assembly polls, Deepender Hooda clarified, “This tie-up was for the Lok Sabha election. For the Vidhan Sabha polls, the Congress is capable on its own. We are strong in all 90 assembly constituencies and capable to fight on our own.”

Hooda also dismissed Chief Minister Saini’s allegations that the previous Congress government misled the poor by promising plots under the Mahatma Gandhi Gramin Basti Yojana, asserting that the Congress had distributed plots to 3.92 lakh families and the current government halted the scheme.

Asserting that the BJP sensed its imminent defeat in the upcoming Assembly elections, Hooda thanked the people of Haryana for their support in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
