Congress’ Tagore Says Modi’s “Retirement Plan Ready”

"Congress declares Modi's impending retirement," Tagore challenges BJP

Agency(Wayanad): Congress leader Manickam Tagore has launched a vigorous critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that Modi’s political career is nearing its end. Speaking in Kerala, Tagore stated that the electorate is poised to retire Modi in the upcoming vote count on June 4 for the 18th Lok Sabha elections.

Tagore, who is contesting again for his seat in Tamil Nadu, expressed confidence in the Congress party’s historical support for reservation policies, contrasting it with the BJP-RSS stance, which he claimed opposes such measures. “We are the party that has introduced and consistently supported reservation in India for the last 75 years,” he declared.

As the current MP for Virudhunagar constituency, Tagore faces significant opposition, including actor-turned-politician Raadhika Sarathkumar from the BJP and Vijaya Prabhakaran from the DMDK. Despite the stiff competition, he remains optimistic about his prospects and the broader performance of the secular alliance led by the DMK, which previously dominated the region in the 2019 polls.

The comments from Tagore reflect a sharpening of campaign rhetoric as parties position themselves in the final stages of the general elections, which saw 102 seats across 21 states and UTs vote in the first phase. With Tamil Nadu’s 39 Lok Sabha seats having already polled, the political landscape is braced for significant shifts depending on the outcomes of these tightly contested races.
