Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Lauds Opposition’s Bypoll Wins as “Extremely Encouraging”

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi hails Opposition's win in four out of seven Assembly bypolls as a promising sign for anti-BJP forces in upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

New Delhi (Agency): Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Gaurav Gogoi expressed optimism over the Opposition’s recent success in Assembly bypolls, calling the wins “extremely encouraging.” He believes that the results indicate the potential strength of the anti-BJP front in next year’s high-stakes Lok Sabha elections.

Gogoi took to social media platform X, stating, “The bye-election results are extremely encouraging. INDIA has shown the potential to win big in 2024.” His comments came after the Opposition alliance won in four of the seven Assembly seats where bypolls were held on September 5.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief, Akhilesh Yadav, also celebrated the party’s win in the Ghosi bypoll. He posted on X, saying that the victory would set the tone for more wins in the coming days.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also praised the people of Dhupguri in North Bengal after her party, the TMC, secured a win. She stated on X, “The people of North Bengal are with us and trust our strategies for growth, inclusiveness, and empowerment.”

The bypolls served as a critical test for the newly-formed Opposition alliance, which aims to challenge the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre. The elections covered seven Assembly seats across six states — Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tripura, and Kerala.

Of these seven Assembly seats, the BJP managed to win three, including Boxanagar, Dhanpur, and Bageshwar. Meanwhile, the Opposition alliance, referred to as INDIA, secured victories in Dumri, Puthupally, Ghosi, and Dhupguri.

This development is significant as it gives a glimpse into the public’s mood and might indicate the political landscape leading up to the Lok Sabha elections. The success in the bypolls appears to have boosted the confidence of Opposition leaders, who now see a glimmer of hope for unseating the BJP in the upcoming national elections.
