Agency(New Delhi): The ongoing war of words between the BJP and Congress continues as Karnataka Minister DK Suresh stands by his earlier remark about a “separate nation” demand from southern states if funds are not released by the Centre. DK Suresh accused the BJP of unfair treatment towards Karnataka, citing issues related to GST and tax distribution.

The controversy began when DK Suresh claimed that the southern states were not receiving their fair share of GST and direct taxes from the Centre. He stated that if this trend continued, the southern states might be forced to demand a separate country.

In response to these remarks, BJP MP Tejaswi Surya accused the Congress of playing divisive politics. He highlighted the increase in tax devolution to Karnataka under PM Modi’s government compared to the UPA government.

DK Suresh, in a retort to Tejaswi Surya, argued that the Central Government had deprived Karnataka of its funds and development. He also pointed out that Karnataka’s share of funds had decreased in the 15th Finance Commission compared to the 14th Finance Commission.

The exchange of statements reflects the political tensions surrounding the allocation of funds and resources to different states in India.
