Congress Critiques Modi’s Silence on Key Issues

Congress accuses PM Modi of ignoring crucial issues, affecting national security, farmers' rights, and women wrestlers' harassment claims.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency(New Delhi): The Congress party has launched a sharp critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his lack of response to significant societal concerns, highlighting three primary areas of contention.

Jairam Ramesh, a prominent figure within the Congress, criticized the recent military recruitment scheme, alleging it undermines national security by demotivating the armed forces and compressing the training period for servicemen to just six months. He raised concerns about the dissatisfaction among potential recruits of the Agniveer scheme, citing a decrease in prestige and economic stability. Ramesh questioned whether the Modi administration would reconsider its approach and revert to the traditional recruitment methodology in light of the scheme’s glaring shortcomings.

Additionally, Ramesh brought attention to the ongoing protests by thousands of farmers in Haryana and adjacent states, who have been demonstrating against the Modi government’s perceived disregard for their concerns since last month. These protesters demand the legal recognition of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the adoption of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations for determining MSP. Ramesh highlighted that these demands align with Congress’s Kisan Nyay agenda and questioned Prime Minister Modi’s reluctance to address the farmers’ needs, accusing him of attempting to suppress their voices rather than providing reassurance.

Furthermore, the Congress leader pointed out Prime Minister Modi’s notable silence on serious accusations of harassment made by women wrestlers from Haryana against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Ramesh questioned Modi’s stance on the issue and whether he views Singh as part of “Modi ka Parivar.”

By highlighting these issues, Ramesh underscored a pattern of silence from the Prime Minister on matters of national importance, summarizing the government’s approach with the phrase “Jail Jawan, Jail Kisan, Jail Pehelwan.” This critique from the Congress aims to hold Modi accountable for his administration’s actions and inactions, pressing for a change in policy and approach towards addressing the concerns of the military, farmers, and athletes.
