Agency(New Delhi): In a significant political shift ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Hisar MP, Brijendra Singh, announced his resignation from the party, citing “compelling political reasons,” and immediately joined the Congress Party. Shortly after publicizing his departure on X, Singh, accompanied by his father and BJP leader Birender Singh, visited Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in New Delhi to formalize his membership with the Congress.

Expressing his gratitude towards the BJP, its national president J.P. Nadda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Amit Shah for the opportunity to serve as Hisar’s MP, Singh’s move signals a notable transition in his political career. His resignation post highlighted his appreciation for the roles and responsibilities he held during his tenure with the BJP.

The welcoming ceremony at Kharge’s residence saw the presence of senior Congress leaders Ajay Maken, Mukul Wasnik, and Deepak Babaria, underscoring the significance of Singh’s switch to the Congress. Party insiders have indicated that Singh, a bureaucrat-turned-politician and the great-grandson of eminent Jat leader Sir Chhotu Ram, is poised to be the Congress candidate from Hisar in the forthcoming electoral contest.

This move comes after Singh’s victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where he defeated Jannayak Janta Party’s Dushyant Chautala and the then Congress candidate Bhavya Bishnoi to secure the Hisar seat. Singh’s defection to the Congress marks a pivotal moment in the political landscape, reflecting the ongoing realignments as parties gear up for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
